What is MR-Composite Material, and what is the difference between MR-Composite Material and Normal Composite Material?
MR-Composite Material stands for Moisture Resistant Medium Density Composite Material. It is a type of Composite Material engineered to have better resistance to moisture compared to standard Composite Material, making it suitable for applications in humid and moist environments.
Standard Composite Material:
Made from wood fibers, wax, and resin, compressed under high heat and pressure.
Denser than plywood but easy to cut, shape, and sand.
Used in the fabrication of cabinets, doors, and other furniture elements, especially when a smooth finish is required.
Susceptible to damage when exposed to water or high humidity.
MR-Composite Material:
Similarly made from wood fibers, but with modified resins to impart moisture-resistant properties. It can be used in areas with occasional, transient exposure to moisture, like bathrooms and kitchens, as it can better withstand humid conditions. Not entirely waterproof, so prolonged exposure to water can still cause damage.
Differences between MR-Composite Material and Standard Composite Material:
Moisture Resistance:
MR-Composite Material is designed to resist moisture better than standard Composite Material. Standard Composite Material absorbs water more readily, swelling, and losing structural integrity.
Application:
MR-Composite Material is suitable for environments with higher humidity or occasional exposure to moisture, like kitchens and bathrooms. Standard Composite Material is suitable for dry environments and is not recommended for use where it may be exposed to water or high humidity.
Cost:
MR-Composite Material may be more expensive due to its enhanced properties.
Resin Composition:
The resin used in MR-Composite Material is modified to provide better moisture resistance compared to the resin in standard Composite Material. Remember, even though MR-Composite Material has better moisture resistance, it is not waterproof, so it is not suitable for outdoor use or areas with constant exposure to water. In such scenarios, a more suitable material would be Marine Plywood or another waterproof material.
